100 WC WEEK 14

Today was the day. Finally, we were going to camp. During class we had been learning about some famous ship wrecks and on camp we were going to see a replica of the titanic. I know camp is meant to be about having fun and no one wants to learn, but this was different, it was going to be very cool! The only negative was that the place we are going to is Canberra, which is extremely far away. Plus we have to take the bus which is rather annoying, but I guess if we were going to fly it would cost more.

MATHS MATER TERM 4 SHEET 8

Predict: I predict this question will be about finding the missing value.

Read: Fill in the missing digits in the multiplication.

Clarify: I had nothing to clarify.

The big question: What are the missing digits.

Mathematicians toolbox: I used the strategy of have I seen a similar problem.

Solution: The first thing I did was work out the edition that the question showed. 5 x 27 which equals 135. Then I had to complete the second equation. I tried 3 x 27 this got me 81, then I added up the answer and got 945 so that was my answer.

Conclusion: In conclusion I used the strategy of have I seen a similar problem to get an answer 945.

BTN- Kid Causes

Do you remember the ice bucket challenge? Heaps of us got involved. It was all about motor neurone disease. Do you know that organ donation is very important? When you think about it all these great and wonderful campaigns and ambassadors have been bought to us by many young children. There is also one more thing, we’ve all heard of the noble peace prize right? We all know its usually an adult that wins it right? We’ll not this year. This year 17 year old Malala Yousafzai. She has been fighting for children’s rights since she was a little girl. This has made her nationally recognised and even won her a noble peace prize!!

Camp Reflection (I couldn’t believe it when….)

I couldn’t believe it when we were at questacon, and I saw the giant vertical slide. When I walked in that was the first thing I saw. I also heard screams as I saw people drop from the metal bar, sliding down the huge slide. But the funny thing was that we had to wear these weird looking jumpsuits, it looked like we were tradies at work. I liked the look of the side and decided to give it a go. The jumpsuits didn’t only look weird but also felt rather uncomfortable. It’s also very hard to walk up stairs in them. We were in groups of about 10 when we went for our turn. I was about the third or fourth one to drop. It was very nerve racking watching everyone else go so that’s why I went as soon as possible. The sudden rush you felt was breathtaking. My stomach lurched and it felt like I was flying until I hit the slide and I came back down to Earth again. That was the first time I had experienced something like that before. It made me wan’t to do it again so I did exactly that. But as I was walking up the stairs the rest of the group left. So there I was with 10 others. Waiting for everyone to go down the slide. This time around, it felt different, the rush was the same but the experience wasn’t. It felt like it only lasted a second.

We ended up waiting in that games room for a while, because people were still going down the slide. Out of everything we did on camp questacon may have been the most enjoyable experience of all.

BTN -Fairy Business

Have you ever wondered how small businesses start? Or how old you have to be to start one? Well there’s an answer to the first one but the second one, has many answers. Take Samara for example, she started making fairy houses to raise money for her school and now she’s only 15 and has her own business and even published a book!

Usually to start a small business u need passion for the idea and Samara definitely has that. She lives in Bali and in her spare time she teaches the locals to make their own fairy houses.

So the moral is if you really believe in something and want to go forward in it keep trying even if you don’t succeed at first.

maths mate term 4 sheet 5

Predict: I predict this will be about addition.

Read: Which deal costs less per gram.

clarify: I had nothing to clarify.

Big question:  Which deal costs less per gram?

Mathematicians toolbox: I used have I seen a similar problem.

Solve: Firstly, I doubled $3 and 250 so double $3 is $6, and double 250 is 500. So because it has$5 for 500 g and $6 for 500 g it means the cheapest one was $5 for 500 g.

Conclusion: I used the strategy of have I seen a similar problem to get the answer of A.

maths mate term 4 sheet 4

Predict: I predict that this question will be about finding the missing value.

Read: Fill in the missing number 36 divided  by something = 4

Clarify: I had nothing to clarify.

Big question : What is the missing value.

Mathematicians Toolbox: I used working backwards.

Solve: First, I knew that 4 times something equaled 36 and I know to check if the multiplication is correct by using division. So I divided 36 by 4 and got 9.

Summary: The strategy of working backwards to get an answer of 9.

100 WC WEEK 11

It was dark as I trudged along the castles barriers. The beaming lights glowing within the walls the firefly’s lighting up the night sky. I longed ever so much to be with normal people. Being a peasant doesn’t get you much. I have to work 50 hours a week every week. I didn’t get paid a lot either. Suddenly there was a crash and some screaming. I ran towards the noise, and they were rebels trying to crash their way through the castle doors. I knew they would eventually get killed one way or another so I sprinted away as fast as I could.

BTN – G20

The G20 is a push to solve many worldwide problems. There are only 19 countries in the G20 plus a European union representative. Only the most powerful countries are allowed. This year, Brisbane are holding the exclusive event. All the countries together represent 2/3 of the worlds population, and hold 85% of the worlds money.

The G20 is used so the most powerful countries come together to talk about the most important issues in the world. Some topics that get a mention are trade, energy, jobs and many more. Most of the decisions made will most likely affect you in one way or another.
