MATHS MATE TERM 3 SHEET 5

Predict: I predict that this question is going to be about working backwards.

Read: I think of a number, divide it by 2 and then add 12. If the result is 20, what was the original number?

Clarify: I had nothing to clarify

The Big Question: What number did you think of.

Mathematicians toolbox: I used the strategy of working backwards.

Solution:
First I knew if I was working backwards I would need to use the invert operations of the
equations shone. If the result was 20 I would minus 12, then I would be on 8 then, I would multiply by 2 which would give me 16. So my answer was 16.

Conclusion: In conclusion I used my knowledge of working backwards to get an answer of 16.
